Central Park Gables
CloseA heritage home reworked through light, volume and connection between old and new.
Set within a heritage overlay, the project carefully restores the original Edwardian home while introducing a contemporary extension designed to sit quietly behind it.

A central atrium becomes the key organising element, creating a moment of transition between the existing house and the new addition. This vertical space draws light deep into the plan and establishes a visual connection across levels, linking past and present.

The linear skylight along the kitchen's back wall defines where old meets new, flooding the space with natural light while celebrating the junction of existing and new roof forms.

Material selection honours the original home's character: recycled red brick walls punctuated by black steel shrouds and steel-framed windows. The upper volumes feature black stained thermally modified timber cladding, creating clean angular shapes that echo the original roof pitch.

Internally, a refined palette of white walls, grey cabinetry, marble and terrazzo surfaces are accented with black elements, reinforcing the architectural language throughout.

Upstairs, new accommodation is arranged to balance privacy and connection, with openings framing views to the garden and maintaining a sense of continuity throughout the home.

Central Park Gables demonstrates how heritage homes can evolve boldly while respecting their origins, creating generously proportioned spaces that adapt to family life's changing phases.
