Brighton Pavilion
CloseSimplified materials and considered detailing to straddle styles.

This modest extension cohesively brings together two distinct architectural styles while retaining as much of the original home as possible. Our clients spend significant time in California and wanted their home to echo features of the endemic bungalow style while also incorporating design elements that reflected their love of Japanese architecture.

Blending history with modern interpretation, the extension’s strikingly minimalist off-form concrete expression honours the brief. Simplified materials and considered detailing nod at both Japanese and Californian styles while contrasting with and complementing the home’s existing frontage.

A standalone studio clad in zincalume custom orb sheeting at the back of the property is designed for multigenerational living, with walnut slatted shutters offering necessary privacy.
