Barwon Dunes House
CloseA home shaped by light, landscape and coastal conditions.
A ‘forever’ home that will adapt as its family of five changes and grows, the bright and breezy Barwon Heads Residence is designed to celebrate the elements of its beachside location.

Just a short stroll from Barwon Head’s rugged 13th Beach and immersed within a coastal garden, the house’s organic rammed earth walls and curved timber-batten cladding will weather over time and further embed the home in its location.

The striking curved form is both a nod to the environment and a design response to the site’s orientation and relationship to neighbouring properties.

A dramatic double-height living space forms the heart of the home, while a slender steel bridge links the upper level spaces — creating moments of connection and allowing light and coastal breezes to move freely through the house.

Zoned to accommodate all generations, the kitchen and dining areas anchor the home and create opportunities for the family to gather together.

A natural, earthy and warm palette, windows overlooking the garden and cross-ventilation drawing in the light ocean breeze comprise a decidedly contemporary interpretation of the traditional beach house.

A guest wing and games room are strategically separated from the main living areas, with all bedrooms located upstairs. The second storey also includes a home office and gym with views out through the curved façade.
